Evaluation
A functional analysis determined that the top and bottom front teeth were colliding during normal chewing, causing pressure on the TM joint and excessive wear to the top front teeth.
Solution
Our integrated bio-functional approach orthodontic treatment moved the upper teeth out of the way, reducing the TMJ discomfort and the click. We placed porcelain veneers on the front teeth and porcelain crowns on the back teeth to create a more pleasing smile.

Evaluation
A comprehensive aesthetic evaluation related this patient’s smile to the rest of his face, his teeth to his lips and gum tissue. A diagnostic template determined the exact proportions needed for the most pleasing results and recommended orthodontic treatment before cosmetic treatment to move his teeth into the most favorable position prior to placing veneers.
Solution
The key to successful treatment in this instance was moving the teeth first in order to achieve a result that allowed proper size and proportion of the teeth at the end of treatment. We used orthodontics to correctly re-position the six front teeth and balance the bite to limit the risk of abnormal wear and tear on the teeth. Six porcelain veneers were placed to close all the spaces.

Concerns
Our patient was unhappy with the uneven wear on her front teeth. She had noticed over the past several years that her front teeth were wearing at a faster rate, that the edges of her front teeth were chipped and that her teeth were becoming shorter.
Evaluation
After a comprehensive examination of how her teeth meet and chew it was determined that this patient had a bite imbalance that was causing her teeth to wear unevenly. Her chewing system was out of balance; she had no GPS system that effectively told her brain how her teeth should meet while chewing.
Solution
First we determined how we could re-establish a GPS system that allowed her “chewing machine” to work without any interferences. By balancing her bite and allowing all her back teeth to touch at the same time with the same amount of force, we reduced the risk that she would continue to wear her front teeth making them uneven and unattractive.
Then we placed 8 porcelain veneers on her upper front teeth; the treatment corrected the unevenness of her front teeth and gave her a more uniform, beautiful smile. One that she can be proud of.
